Opening Gala Speaker: Carolyn Dufurrena

We are very excited to introduce the speaker for our Opening Gala at INANE 2019: Carolyn Dufurrena!

Carolyn Dufurrena came west several decades ago to live life in the Nevada desert. She is the author of a recent book of poems called Quiet, Except for the Wind and is a regular contributor to RANGE Magazine. She was lead writer for C.J Hadley’s Cowboys and Critters: Symbiosis in the American West (2017) and has contributed to several other books, including Brushstrokes and Balladeers: Painters and Poets of the American West, which received a 2014 Wrangler Award.

She is a regular performer at the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nevada and pops up at various other venues around the West to share poems and stories. She also is part of the Nevada Arts Council’s Artists in Schools and Communities, where she conducts poetry, writing and short film workshops. She is a member of the Nevada Humanities Board of Trustees.

She and her husband Tim work and live on the Quinn River Ranch in the Nevada desert, where they raise cattle, alfalfa, and registered American Quarter Horses.

Carolyn is excited to join us and share stories, some poetry, and maybe even a few short film clips of her life in the Nevada desert.
